HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center has been named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2026. The list can be viewed on Newsweek.com. Moanalua Medical Center is 1 of 2 hospitals in Hawaii to be named best for maternity care by Newsweek. It received a 4-ribbon score with high marks for quality, reputation, and patient experience.
High-quality maternity care, provided prenatally, through pregnancy, and during birth and the postpartum period, is key to the long-term health of newborns and birthing parents. This is the fifth year in a row Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii has been recognized for maternity excellence by Newsweek.
The ranking is based on 3 pillars:
- Hospital quality metrics: Indicators relevant to maternity care, such as low rates of elective early deliveries and adhering to key safety protocols, were considered.
- Patient experience survey: Available data from patient surveys were used to analyze the overall patient experience in the hospital.
- Nationwide online survey: Health care professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes (including neonatal and perinatal doctors, nurses, and midwives), were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals in the U.S.
“Being named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2026 is a meaningful reflection of the exceptional care our teams provide every day,” said Alexa Sueda, MD, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii. “We’re committed to creating a supportive environment where families feel confident and cared for, from the early moments of family planning, into pregnancy, through delivery, and beyond.”
The Family Birth Center at Moanalua Medical Center offers coordinated labor and delivery care in a safe and comfortable setting. Each birth is supported by a team made up of the patient’s obstetrician-gynecologist, certified nurse-midwife, neonatologist, and other care providers. Families benefit from private delivery suites, mother-baby rooms, culturally sensitive practices, room service, and labor aids such as a hydrotherapy tub. For newborns who require specialized care, the center features a state-of-the-art Level III NICU (neonatal intensive care unit).
